The Story

In 2020 we wanted to find a fun way to bring creative people together, provide inspiration and boost motivation for others.

This will be the 5th year that the challenge is taking place and it is amazing to see how many of you take part and make new connections! We are all about spreading positivity within the Maker Community and connecting other makers, who otherwise may not have found each other. This online challenge is one way we continue to do so.

As a way of giving back to the community, we have always teamed up with some incredible sponsors who donate prizes to be given away. We can’t thank them enough for being so supportive of the makers within this community, so be sure to show them some love too!

Here’s how May for Makers works: We provide 31 prompts, from silly, serious and open-ended to get you brainstorming and creating fun, thoughtful content. This year’s theme is fill-in-the-blank and it is open to the individual’s unique interpretation. Each year we discover new and different inspiring makers/artists out there in the world, build connections and make new life-long friends. It’s a win-win for everyone that gets involved!

In 2021, one year after the first May for Makers challenge,  we wanted to find a way to keep the spirit going and provide an outlet to connect other makers year-round. That’s when we created @andtheymake as a way to leave the door open, conversation going and good vibes flowing. Be sure to check that out to discover other like-minded creatives!

  • Although this event is a “challenge”, it’s more-so a fun way to be involved with the like-minded, creative people out there, whether you consider yourself a “maker” or not!

    The daily prompts are loose suggestions of themes that you can make content based on..

    You can use whichever platform you prefer best whether that’s Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc. The content you make can be posts, reels, or stories, whatever you are most comfortable doing.

    To get the most out of this event, we highly recommend that you follow @andtheymake to see the stories and follow the hashtags #mayformakers, #mayformakers2024, and/or #MFM24. That is the best way to see what everyone taking part is sharing and a great way to discover new people!

    Whether they do what you like to do or share about something that you find interesting/inspiring, the whole name of the game is networking and bringing together a community!

  • Direct, silly, serious, heart-felt, invented with purpose and open-ended. It’s all up to how you interpret it! There is no right or wrong!

  • This year we’ve partnered with a great group of sponsors to provide the community with more value and to connect brands with other makers and artists. There will be various methods of entry for the different giveaways.

    To give everyone ample time to enter each giveaway, the entry forms will be open for the entire month. The winners will then be announced the first week of June.

The May for Makers T-Shirt

In the past, to commemorate the fun-filled month, we create a T-Shirt that includes a number of logos on the back displaying the many makers and brands who took part in the challenge! We will be announcing more details about this later in the month so stay tuned!
